Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that helps balance a person’s energy, remove energy blockages, and release negative energy.

Who Can Reiki Help?

Reiki is for everyone: it heals adults, babies, toddlers, children, elderly and pets (Manitou Wellness Center, 2018).

Benefits of Reiki
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing (Reiki.Org, 2019).

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki is the life energy that flows through us all. Everyone is capable of connecting with their healing energy. Through the practice of Reiki, we can strengthen our connection to this healing energy and help others.

Reiki is Completely Safe
Reiki is a completely safe treatment. It is in no way harmful. Most people leave a Reiki session feeling relaxed and calm.

Studies On Reiki’s Effectiveness
It is very complicated to create studies showing its success because it is hard to measure reduced stress, spiritual connection, enhanced self-esteem, or greater wellbeing. However, benefits such as improved heart rate and blood pressure are able to be measured.

What to Expect at a Reiki Session?

Reiki can actually be done anywhere but usually on a massage table or on a mat on the floor. You will lay comfortably and unlike a massage, no clothing is removed. While receiving Reiki, you are not required to do anything. You can choose to daydream, focus on your breath, or the sensations associated with the Reiki.

The practitioner will place their hands in various positions slightly above your body, or lightly on your body. Let the practitioner know if you don’t want to be touched. The reiki practitioner will either start at the top of the head or closer to the feet and do specific hand placements moving up the body or down the body. The practitioner will usually hold each hand position till they feel the energy no longer flowing, usually about two to five minutes. If they feel a tingling in a person’s body, that means they need to hold their hands there a bit longer. Often the practitioner’s hands will heat up, and the person will feel the heat on their body. At the end of the Reiki session, you may be asked how it felt. Some practitioners with special gifts will have messages that they received while performing the reiki.

We recommend not booking any other appointments or errands after your session so you can go home and rest. Baths, naps or any other soothing self-care rituals are a great option after a Reiki session.

Our Reiki Sessions can be combined with Private Yoga and/or Massage or other healing services.
